Screen Light Verifier App / 2016
Designed solely for measuring brightness levels from cinema screens using a white test pattern the Digital Screen Verifier from Harkness Screens is a quick and easy to use tool designed for cinema engineers.
Utilising ground-breaking proprietary technology, the Digital Screen Verifier from Harkness Screens is a unique utility that allows cinema engineers and exhibitors to ensure that brightness levels in digital cinema are regularly checked and maintained. Quick and easy to use, this relatively accurate low-cost light measurement tool allows brightness readings to be taken (in foot lamberts) using white test patterns from a digital cinema projector. Its unique functionality allows light readings taken in the field to be directly imported into Harkness’ cloud-based Digital Screen Archiver tool in real-time to form a semi-automated entry-level solution for screen monitoring and auditorium maintenance.
Commissioned by Harkness Screens to create an app that would allow engineers to take light readings from digital screens in cinemas, I was tasked with creating the needed functionality of this app. This began with gaining an understanding of the technology behind it.
To start I delved into research of what the apps technology was. Next, I created a userflow that demonstrated the precise process required for engineers to get their screen readings. Once reviewed by the client, a wireframe of the screens was developed which demonstrated the layout and functionality of the app. The wireframes, were then converted to branded, hi-def mockups. Working directly with developers a prototype was created in order for user testing to take place. The user tests led to a final pass on the interface design and then the final development of the app. With one last pass on user testing complete, the app was successfully launched.
