Client: Lateral North
Lateral North works across disciplines, harnessing design, architecture, master planning, community engagement, filmmaking, photography, digital technologies, and interpretative design to creatively tell the stories of the people, organizations, communities, institutions, and governments. We place design, creativity, and innovation at the heart of every project that we work on, with services split across six key areas. In many projects, these services overlap to create multi-faceted projects that combine physical installations and digital experiences.
Role: Lead UX Designer
As Scotland's official contribution to the prestigious Venice Biennale, the exhibition Prospect North critically examines the intricate relationship between Scotland and its northern neighbors, highlighting cultural, geographical, and historical connections. This innovative and immersive exhibition leveraged cutting-edge technologies, including augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), to effectively convey a range of concepts, such as advanced mapping strategies, the principles of community collaboration in design, and the evolution of vernacular architecture through different time periods—past, present, and future.Â
As a dedicated member of the core team, I played a vital role in shaping the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of the interactive applications developed for the Prospect North Exhibition. My responsibilities involved designing the functionality and aesthetic of the mobile and desktop apps and ensuring they were seamlessly integrated with the overall exhibition experience. Additionally, I contributed to print design materials that complemented the digital aspects of the exhibition, providing a cohesive and engaging presentation that resonated with visitors and effectively showcased the themes and concepts of the project.
